I can't wait to live here!

When we first looked at this house I said to myself, wow this really way out in the boonies.  As I travel there now it seems to get closer somehow.  I love being out in the boonies, which is only 2 miles or so from town.  I can't wait to live here though.  The drive there is so pretty, calming.  ;klasjdfoiwejtfgownfgvfvn
Back to reality.
Today we went over to continue our quest.  Jeff finished up getting the new back door in.   He had started it on Wednesday when he was there.

 

  

  

Looks good, huh?  It is beeeuuutiful!  It fits well despite being a little strange.  Seems that when they made the door, they did not countersink the hinges on the frame so there was a small gap when installed.  Jeff put up weatherstripping on the outside of the jamb and it is fine now.  He won't put the trim back up because we are pulling out the paneling in that room to drywall it.  

When he was here Wednesday, he got the ceilings painted in the kitchen, living room and hallway.

We spackled and sanded in the living room and while that was drying, I painted the crown moulding in the kitchen.  Then went in to the living room and did the window trim, door trim and door.  I love glossy white trim.  It looks so crisp and clean.  The wood is in really good shape on the windows so far.  Very easy to paint. 

 

  

  

I don't know if I mentioned it or not, I know a couple of you are aware though, the outside vent pipe for the septic system had been sawed off when they "fixed" the back deck.  When it got cold again, it froze right at the ground level and plugged.  Jeff went and got a coupler to fix it and it is fine now.  Whew.

 

   

There was a light switch on the wall that I thought was beautiful once cleaned up.  It had been painted white at some point and was very dirty.  So I scrubbed and cleaned it but could not get it all off.  It is originally brass plated metal.  I took the drill and used the stripper to get the rest of the finish off.  I painted it with my silver paint and love the way it looks.  

 

It has some really nice textures and details to it.  It will look nice when it goes back up.

After priming the sanded spots in the living room, Jeff cleaned up the brushes and we called it a day.

One of these things is not like the other......

We got our new roof today.  Adams Roofing in Loudon did a great job and I would recommend them for your roofing needs.  They pulled up at 8:30 and they were done by 11:30.  It cost $3430.00.  You do the math.  The good news is we will get back 30% of the actual cost of the roof, thank you President Obama!  The actual material cost was $2000.00, so we are getting just under $600.00 back.  We will also be getting that credit for our new door and if we put more insulation in that qualifies also. 

While the roof was being installed, Jeff and I were inside pulling up the old carpet in the front room and the hall. 

 

  

  

  

We have to get new plywood for the front room to raise it 1/4" to meet up with the kitchen sub-floor so our new floor will sit even.  

We got all that up, pulled staples and loose nails up to clean up that floor.  It was nasty.  Jeff sprinkled baking soda on there before we left to absorb any moisture and odors.  

Jeff also finished putting up his quarter round in the bathroom.

It was time to go get Tom, so we loaded up all that carpet and padding and took it to the landfill.  First and last time for me...P.U.

We did stop to take a couple of nice pics of the mountains with all the snow on top, it was such a pretty day but still cold. 

  

So it was a very productive day.  Took 2 Tylenol and getting this up, then cooking dinner then relax!

So apparently I am a bad ground, thank God!

So today we went over.  I had trim to finish and Jeff wanted to clean the bathroom.  We got those done!  Yipee.

 

 

He just has some quarter round to put in along the bottom of the tub and paint the front of the vanity.  He did such a wonderful job.  It looks great, doesn't it?

We were going to start on the ceiling in the kitchen next.  We have the 2 new lights  to go in and we were going to switch out the outdated ceiling fan in the dining room 

 

with the one in the family room because it is a nice fan and it matches the new flooring.  

 

So, Jeff took the light kit off the fan in the family room because there was no pull chain on there for the fan.  It was missing the stuff in there for the fan.  Then he took the light kit off the fan in the dining room, put the missing parts from that assembly into the family room fan.  Are you following this?  He rewired the parts and had me throw the circuit breaker back on.  Nothing.  Did a little rewiring, nothing.  Moved one more wire and ZAP it threw the breaker that I had my finger on when he flipped the switch.  He said I must be a bad ground.  Good thing!  I wasn't touching anything else and had my tennies on. Whew.  No perm for me. 

To make a long story short, both those fans are in the garbage and we are taking this one 

 

from the Master and putting it in the family room.  I will get a light for the dining room.  Who needs a stupid fan in there anyway.

More paint....

Seems like we have a lot of painting to do...here is the blue trim for the kitchen.  I will also be doing the island the same color blue.   I also want to have some artwork done above the cabinets in the blue. 

 

Jeff took down the fan in the bathroom and cleaned that up.  He vacuumed the vent too.  He had to patch up around the opening so he did that then he painted the ceiling.  Here is the mirror pic I forgot the other day.

 

  

  

We also had 2 companies come out to give estimates on the roofing.  It is looking like around $3800.  Just for kicks, I had Home Depot come out too.  They want $6410!  Yeah right.  Whatever.

Tom won.  I have always loved Julia Child.  I remember watching her cooking show when I was little.  Jeff took me to see the movie Julie and Julia and fell in love with her kitchen.  While I am not yet ready to paint my cabinets, someday I will, I used her color on my walls and am using blue as an accent just as Paul Child did when he designed her kitchen.  I finished the walls and trim yesterday.  Just need to paint the window trim above the sink. 

 

  

 

While I was busy in the kitchen, Jeff was working in the bathroom.  He got the mirror up, the towel bar and toilet paper holder installed and also our new curved shower rod.  All in chrome.  He also touched up the trim and painted the door. 

 

  

  

  

  

Forgot to get a pic of the mirror.  Will get that tomorrow. We got a lot done, we were there for about 9 hours.  We take the toaster oven with us to heat leftovers to eat because we don't have any appliances in there yet.  We want to wait until we are ready to move in to get those.
